Every 22 minutes someone is killed or seriously injured on UK roads An article published on 15 May 2022 in The Times bears the headline: “Speeding causes three times as many road deaths as previously thought”. A Metropolitan Police review has found that speeding was cited as a factor in 17.5 per cent of fatal crashes in 2019 based on the initial investigation, but 49.2 percent based on the final results. The figure for 2020 was revised up from 19.1 per cent to 46.8 percent.
